Four people were sentenced to imprisonment due to participating in Gezi Park protests organized in 2013 in Edremit district of Balıkesir. The file against four among 24, who were previously prosecuted and acquitted, was reversed by the Court of Cassation. Following the verdict, Edremit Education and Science Workers’ Union (Eğitim-Sen) Representative Ali Tükengün, Eğitim-Sen Organisation Secretary Kemal Yadırgı, Republican People’s Party (CHP) Edremit Youth Organisation’s former Chairman Çağdaş Alkan and Zekiye Buket Gürses were prosecuted once again and were sentenced to 1 year and three months of imprisonment each. The announcement of the verdicts were deferred.
