The Başakşehir District National Education Directorate sent a poster on January 4 to all public and private schools in Istanbul announcing training to be held as part of the “Spiritual Counseling and Guidance Certificate Program.” Sinan Gül, President of Education Sen Istanbul Branch No. 7, stated that the application paves the way for sects to organize in schools and announced that they would not allow spiritual counselors into schools where they are organized. Gül said that allowing people without pedagogical training into schools is contrary to secular and scientific education and that it interferes with the duties of religion culture teachers and guidance and psychological counselors. Eğitim Sen emphasized that the shortage of guidance teachers and psychological counselors is being covered up with such practices.
