University students gathered on Yüksel Street in Ankara to protest the murder of 15-year-old Hilal Özdemir at Boğaziçi University.
Students faced a police barricade during the protest against femicides. The police asked the students to raise the LGBTIQ+ flag during the demonstration. Students chanted “Where were the police when women were dying?” and “Murdered women are our rebellion”.
The students reminded that Özdemir was murdered while working on campus and held the police and the university administration responsible for negligence. The banner “We are here, we are rebelling for life” stood out in the protest.
Reminding the sexist statements of Boğaziçi University Rector Naci İnci, it was emphasized that women, children and LGBTI+s are not protected on campuses and perpetrators are protected.
