Seven students who protested the appointment of Prof. Dr. İsmail Arda Odabaşı as dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University were suspended for one month.
The students protested Odabaşı’s appointment with demonstrations organized in April and Odabaşı resigned. However, 7 of the 10 students who were investigated on April 11 for disrupting classes were punished for “obstructing the freedom of learning and teaching” as a result of the disciplinary investigation completed on September 5.
The suspension will be imposed between September 15 and October 15. The students stated that the punishment was intended to coincide with the registration period, causing a de facto loss of one semester. Students demand restoration of their right to education and withdrawal of penalties
