Human Rights Association (IHD), Botan Association for Solidarity with Families of Prisoners, Şırnak Bar Association and Lawyers’ Association for Freedom published a joint report on rights violations in Şırnak T Type Closed Prison.
The report reminded the European Prison Rules and national legislation and emphasized that prisoners should be kept in conditions respectful to human rights. It is stated that prison practices cause pain and suffering to prisoners, which turns into torture and ill-treatment.
The report, prepared as a result of interviews with families, relatives and complaints to the press, revealed that the prison administration subjects the prisoners to punitive practices instead of bringing them into the outside world.
The report noted that the practices were contrary to the Constitution and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
