Istanbul Governorate banned all demonstrations and events in Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Eyüpsultan, Kağıthane, Sarıyer and Şişli districts from 20.00 on September 7 until 23.59 on September 10.

The Governorate’s statement cited Provincial Administration Law No. 5442 and Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations and announced that all activities such as rallies, press statements, marches, sit-ins, opening stands, signature campaigns, commemorations, distributing flyers and hanging banners and placards were banned.

The ban came after the appointment of a trustee to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency. CHP Istanbul Youth Branch called for a meeting in front of the Provincial Presidency at 23.00 on the same day, saying, “We will not surrender our democracy to the trustees. We will stand shoulder to shoulder with our Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik”.

With the announcement that Gürsel Tekin will go to the Provincial Presidency on September 8, tensions in the trustee committee have escalated.
