Former Manavgat Mayor Şükrü Sözen was detained at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport while trying to leave the country as part of the corruption and bribery investigation against him.
Current Mayor Niyazi Nefi Kara and Deputy Mayor Mehmet Engin Tüter were previously arrested in the investigation launched against Manavgat Municipality. During the operations, many people were detained along with municipality executives, and 110 thousand Euros were found in a baklava box in Tüter’s office room.
The investigation against Sözen on charges of “bribery, extortion, bid rigging and embezzlement” continues.
