The Human Rights Association published the “2025 Marmara Region Prison Human Rights Violations Report” on February 25, 2026. According to the report, as of January 2, 2026, there were 402,014 prisoners in 403 prisons, and 96,728 people were being held in excess of capacity in prisons with a capacity of 305,286. The IHD stated that despite enforcement regulations, the capacity problem had not been solved and rights violations continued. The association emphasized that children, women, sick, and elderly prisoners are being held in harsh conditions.
