Italian journalist Andrea Lucidi, who planned to attend an informal meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the role of media coverage in the Ukraine crisis, was detained in Istanbul on February 20, 2026. The Italian Foreign Ministry confirmed the detention. Lucidi was expected to speak at the meeting in New York, which was initiated by Russia.
