The Izmir 2nd Juvenile Heavy Penal Court rejected the request for release of a 16-year-old high school student who was arrested on charges of “organization propaganda” for sharing a video supporting a hair braiding protest on February 17, 2026. Following the detention order issued by the Izmir 5th Criminal Court of Peace, the indictment prepared against the child, who was sent to the Şakran Juvenile Prison, was accepted. The court decided to continue the detention on the grounds of strong suspicion of a crime and the possibility of escape, and set the trial date for March 3, 2026.
