ÖHD Urfa Branch stated that relatives of prisoners in Urfa prisons were subjected to degrading practices such as strip searches during open and closed visits. According to the report based on 20 people’s statements, systematic and gender-based discriminatory practices such as stripping women of their underwear, removing their headscarves and touching their private parts have become widespread. ÖHD stated that these procedures violate the prohibition of torture and called on the relevant institutions, especially the Ministry of Justice, to launch an investigation.
