The appeal against the detention of Nedim Oruç, a reporter for Ajansa Welat who was beaten by police and detained while covering news in Cizre district of Şırnak on January 14 and subsequently arrested on charges of “making organization propaganda,” has been rejected. Oruç’s lawyer, Resul Temur, appealed the detention decision on January 20. The Şırnak 1st Criminal Court of First Instance rejected the appeal on February 9, stating that the detention decision was based on concrete evidence and was proportionate. Oruç has been held in Şırnak T-Type Closed Prison for 23 days.
