In a case opened in 2016 in the İdil district of Şırnak, 13 people, including Kurdish politicians, were sentenced to a total of 96 years and 3 months in prison. At the sentencing hearing held at the Şırnak 3rd Heavy Penal Court, the court punished the defendants on charges of “membership in an organization.” Former Co-Mayor of İdil Municipality Nevin Girasun, former Co-Mayor of Deşta Dare Municipality Nuri Akman, DEM Party İdil District Co-Chair Songül Erden, HDP Party Assembly Member Resul Sadak, and 8 others were each sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison. The court sentenced Erhan Malgaz to 6 years and 3 months in prison, while acquitting Şehmus Öztaş and Abdulselam Öz.
