Ali Aydın, a lawyer and manager of the Human Rights Association’s Izmir branch, was attacked and killed on the morning of January 14 after leaving his home in the Evka-2 neighborhood of Izmir’s Çiğli district to go for a walk. When his family was unable to contact him, a search was conducted and Aydın’s body was found. The Izmir Police Department detained M.D.E., who was identified as the perpetrator of the crime. It was reported that the suspect confessed to the crime in his initial statement and said that the attack took place under the influence of drugs. The Karşıyaka Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation and imposed restrictions on the case file. The IHD condemned the attack and announced that it would follow the process closely.
