The Turkish Medical Association (TTB) has called on the Ministry of Justice to allow detainees whose health conditions are not suitable for prison conditions to be tried without remand, including Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık, who is under arrest in the investigation against IBB.
Çalık, who underwent surgery for suspected lymphoma, was transferred to Buca Prison and then collapsed again and was hospitalized. TTB stated that the health problems in prisons hurt the public conscience and that patients who cannot survive in prison conditions should be released immediately.
The statement emphasized that according to IHD data, there are at least 1,412 ill prisoners and the right to life is systematically violated. The TMA presented a 5-point solution proposal on issues such as independent physician evaluations, the ban on handcuffed examinations and the impartiality of the Forensic Medicine Institute.
