DEM Party Diyarbakır MP Serhat Eren brought the rights violations against prisoners studying at Dicle University in Diyarbakır Open Penal Institution to the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Prisoners were forced to study on the grounds that they did not attend classes and exams, and disciplinary proceedings were initiated against those who refused.
This process, which was initiated without taking their individual defenses, shows that not only the right to education is violated, but also that the prison administration uses education as a punitive tool through arbitrary practices. Eren posed questions for the Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç to answer and demanded that the public be informed.
