The Constitutional Court (AYM) ruled that the 20 thousand TL fine imposed by the Court of Appeal in the moral compensation case filed by TRT against Evrensel newspaper was a “violation of freedom of expression”. A news article published in 2019 reported allegations of violence against a child actor on set. The court of first instance considered the news within the scope of freedom of the press and dismissed the case. However, the Court of Appeal overturned the decision and imposed a fine. The Constitutional Court stated that the news was in the public interest and that freedom of expression was violated.
