RTÜK imposed a 10-day broadcast suspension on Halk TV for “inciting the public to hatred and hostility”. RTÜK member İlhan Taşcı described this sanction as “a sword hanging over TV channels”. The reason for the penalty was Prof. Dr. Tolga Yarman’s comments in the program “Sansürsüz with Sinem Fıstıkoğlu” that the phrase “Sunnocratic Neo-Ottomanism” could reinforce sectarian divisions. Taşçı stated that if the same principle is violated again, license revocation will be on the agenda.
