The Press Council has announced the “Freedom of Expression and Press Freedom Report,” which evaluated the year 2018 in terms of freedom of expression and press freedom. Press Council Chairwoman Pınar Türenç stated that the year 2018 was a “dark year” for members of the media with consecutive detainments, lawsuits, arrests, heavy convictions that even involved life imprisonments, shut-down newspapers and TV channels, hundreds of journalists left unemployed and the targeting and threatening of press members by high authorities.
