The prosecution of former People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chair Figen Yüksekdağ started due to “denigrating the Turkish nation, the government of the Republic of Turkey and the government bodies” in accordance with Turkish Penal Code (TCK) Article 301 through a speech she gave in Van in 2016. In the lawsuit held at Ankara 12th Assize Court, Yüksekdağ is charged due to the speech she gave during an event organised by the Human Rights Association Van Chairmanship on September 24th, 2016 related to the revocation of the State of Emergency.
