The Istanbul Governor’s Office announced that the Üsküdar deputy mayor election would be rerun on 5 September. After Mayor Sinem Dedetaş was arrested and removed from office, CHP candidate Sibel Tan Çetinkaya won the election held on 5 August with 22 votes, while People’s Alliance candidate Dündar Ziya Gültekin received 18 votes. Following objections by AK Party council members, Istanbul 2nd Administrative Court stayed the implementation of the election result. The Regional Administrative Court rejected an objection by Çetinkaya’s lawyers. The Istanbul Governor’s Office then decided to rerun the election on 5 September.
