The strike, conducted for a month by 342 workers in workplaces of Izmir Suburban Transport Systems Trade Inc (IZBAN), was postponed for 60 days with a decree issued by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The decree was based on the strike “being damaging against inner-city transportation services.”
The decree is the 16th strike ban since 2002, the year Justice and Development Party (AKP) came into power. According to Act No. 6356 on Trade Unions and Collective Labour Agreements, the IZBAN strike is practically over. In case no results are obtained in the mediation process after the postponement, the last decision will be made by the High Board of Arbitration and thus the right to strike of workers will be ignored.
