Hüseyin Günay, NTV’s Washington correspondent for many years, was fired after his private conversation with President Erdoğan on the White House lawn after the meeting between Erdoğan and US President Trump was captured on AP camera. Günay had said that the meeting was negative for Turkey and that the US imposed a halt to natural gas purchases from Russia in order to sell fighter jets. He also referred to Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s remarks about airplane engines and made remarks about tensions within the Erdoğan family and the government. When the conversation, which included abusive words, went viral on social media, Günay was targeted and dismissed by NTV management.
