Bakırköy 7th Criminal Court of First Instance held the first hearing of 12 people charged for protesting the hosting of Israeli arms suppliers at the 17th International Defense Industry Fair held in Istanbul in July. İsmail Çelik, who has been under arrest for more than two months, was released and Barış Onur Deniz, who has been under house arrest, was released. The defendants and their lawyers attended the hearing, while the press and the audience were not allowed. In his defense, Çelik stated that his slogans were not insults but political criticism and said, “I did what any conscientious person would do.” The court released Çelik with a travel ban and lifted the judicial control conditions for the other defendants. The next hearing will take place on January 7, 2026.
