Artist and former Member of Parliament Sabahat Akkiraz gave a statement as part of an investigation launched against those who signed the declaration titled “We Are Defending Secularism Together.” The process, initiated due to the declaration signed by 168 writers, academics, artists, and journalists, had led Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin to file a criminal complaint. While an investigation was opened into those who signed the statement, some signatories were summoned by the Ankara Police Department to give their statements.
