Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office decided “no prosecution” against 42 people who were detained in handcuffs during a protest in support of Palestine in Istanbul on April 6, 2024. Citing the decision of the 3rd Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation in 2023, the prosecutor’s office stated that there was insufficient evidence that the protesters “insisted on not dispersing despite the use of force”. The police brutality and detentions in the incident caused a public outcry and two police officers were suspended.
