A lawsuit was filed against Evrensel Daily’s former Editor-In-Chief Ismail Cem Şimşek due to “slander” through three different news articles published on the rights violations at Tarsus Prison. The journalist faces an imprisonment claim for up to four years in the lawsuit filed following the complaint of the prison administration on the news published on August 3, 2018 with the headline, “Torture allegations at Tarsus” and another on August 9, 2018 with the headline, “Tensions high at Tarsus Prison” as well as one news article written by lawyer Tugay Bek on August 6, 2018 with the title, “Brought from Afrin, forgotten in Prison.” The first hearing of the lawsuit will be held on January 19 (tomorrow) at Bakırköy 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance, starting at 11:00.
