Özşen Mining workers, who have been protesting to demand unpaid wages and compensation, attempted to attend the opening ceremony of the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne on June 12. The gendarmerie blocked the workers’ path, citing a ban on entry into Edirne issued by the Uzunköprü District Governor’s Office. When the workers insisted on proceeding, the gendarmerie intervened and detained two of them. Following the detentions, the miners began a hunger strike.
