Turkey was convicted in the application made by politician Mahmut Alınak at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). Alınak applied to the court after having been sentenced to 50 days of imprisonment by Kars Criminal Court of Peace after applying to Kars Municipality and suggesting the names of Musa Anter, Deniz Gezmiş, Vedat Aydın, Kemal Akbulut and Oruç Korkmaz to be given to new streets. The ECtHR underlined that the expressions of Alınak were within the “freedom of expression and thought” and sentenced Turkey to pay 3200 Euros of compensation.
