The Interior Ministry suspended Çukurova Mayor Emrah Kozay from office after he was arrested as part of a corruption investigation. The ministry cited allegations that irregularities had occurred in tender, direct procurement, personnel employment and progress-payment procedures at Çukurova Municipality and its subsidiary Çukurova İmar İnşaat İnsan Kaynakları A.Ş., that public resources had been used unlawfully and that these acts had been carried out in an organized manner. Of 49 people referred to the courthouse as part of the investigation, 34, including Mayor Emrah Kozay and former Mayor Soner Çetin, were arrested, while 15 were released under judicial control. The ministry suspended Kozay as a temporary measure under Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law.
