KESK İzmir Women’s Assembly organized a protest in front of Bornova District Directorate of National Education in support of teachers from Eğitim Sen who were reprimanded for giving a “Gender Equality Class” on March 8. The women carried the banner “Teaching gender equality is not a crime”, presented petitions and chanted various slogans. KESK Women’s Secretary Döne Gevher and Eğitim Sen executive Dilek Karakul emphasized in their statements that gender equality is a fundamental part of democratic and scientific education and reacted to the oppressive and reactionary practices of the Ministry of National Education.
