World transgender rights movement continues to keep transgender murders on agenda with various events they organize on November 20 each year for the Transgender Day of Remembrance. The murder of Rita Hester has become the symbol of the day.
Transgender rights advocate Hayat Çelik prepared a video that draws attentions to transphobic hate murders through four transgender women killed in 2018 (Simge, Begüm, Esra and Kristina) to broadcast on the Transgender Day of Remembrance.
Turkey is the day with the highest number of transgender murders in Europe. According to the 2017 Hate Crimes Report launched by KaosGL, hate crimes against transgenders are mostly committed in public places; the perpetrators are mostly more than two people per incident and the attacks happen in front of live witnesses.
