Union of Political Science Graduates announced the report prepared by Dr. Barış Ünlü and Dr. Özlem Albayrak, who were dismissed from profession with emergency decrees. The report is entitled, “Pressure and Dismissals Against Ankara University Political Science Faculty Members During the Rectorate of Prof. Dr. Erkan İbiş.”
Union of Political Science Graduates Board of Directors indicated that the faculty was exposed to heavy academic damage, especially during the rectorate of Erkan İbiş; emphasizing that the necessity of being a university is to allow academics to handle every topic on a scientific basis, to express their opinions freely, and to socialize their opinions and criticisms.
According to the report, 67 disciplinary investigations were opened against a total of 48 faculty members at the Faculty of Political Sciences after İbiş being assigned as Rector. 39 of those investigations were opened against the academics, who signed the petition, entitled, “We Will Not Partake In This Crime.” The academics faced charges such as insulting the President as well as Rector İbiş. 36 faculty members were dismissed from the Faculty of Political Sciences with emergency decrees. Erkan İbiş has further signed under many arbitrary applications, including a ban and an intervention on the content of the Cow Celebration, one of the most important traditions of the faculty.
