A lawsuit was filed against 72 people who participated in the protests in Kocaeli on March 19, 2025 in reaction to Ekrem İmamoğlu’s arrest. Kocaeli Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office will bring the defendants before a judge on January 27, 2026 on charges of “organizing and participating in unlawful meetings and demonstrations”. The protesters, who came together with a social media call, wanted to march shouting various slogans and did not disperse despite police warnings. The indictment states that the group was intervened with water and pepper spray, some people threw water bottles and soil at the police and used firecrackers.
