Detained journalist Perihan Sevda Erkılınç cannot access proper nutrition and treatment in prison despite her celiac disease. Erkılınç, who is imprisoned in Bakırköy Women’s Prison, cannot access her medication, her gluten-free diet needs are not met and she is not given vitamin therapy. Elif Ergin, lawyer for the Journalists Union of Turkey, stated that “she has submitted nearly 100 petitions to the prison administration, and although she has the flu, she has not been given medication for days.” Women Journalists Association and Labor Party MP Sevda Karaca called for Erkılınç’s release. Karaca stated that the arrest was unlawful and violated his right to health and brought the issue to the Parliament.
