University student Esila Ayık was arrested for carrying a banner reading “Dictator Erdoğan” during a demonstration in Kadıköy, Istanbul to protest the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu. Ayık, who studied photography in Belgium, has been in Bakırköy Women’s Prison since April 9. Her lawyer Göksun Canberk Uluğ told Euronews Turkish that her client has health problems and that the crime for which she is on trial is not punishable even if she is sentenced. Uluğ emphasized that it is risky for Ayık to remain in prison due to his health condition. The court ruled for Ayık’s continued detention during the hearing on Thursday.
