Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu’s international social media account ‘@imamoglu_int’ was also blocked.
This account of İmamoğlu, whose main X account was previously closed, was targeted within the scope of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office’s “public incitement to commit a crime” investigation.
The Freedom of Expression Association (İFÖD) announced that the decision was taken on the grounds of “protection of national security and public order” and was communicated to service providers.
While it is not yet known which judge issued the decision, the X platform did not close access to the account from Turkey.
On the same day, İmamoğlu opened a new account named “Presidential Candidate Office”.
