Torbalı Mayor Övünç Demir announced that his own account was suspended after he changed his profile photo on his X social media account in support of arrested Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
Demir stated that his approved X account was suspended when he changed İmamoğlu’s photo to his profile picture as a show of solidarity. “This is not just a social media restriction, it is a clear interference in freedom of expression and the will of elected representatives,” he said in a written statement.
Demir also said, “Every voice that is tried to be silenced will be louder. Our way is the people’s way,” he said.
