Cavit Erkılınç, General Director of the Press Advertisement Agency (BİK), announced that complaints under the Press Ethics Principles, which had been suspended following the Constitutional Court’s decision, were being re-evaluated following the Council of State’s decision to suspend execution. Speaking at a regional meeting in Antalya, Erkılınç said that approximately 100 files are being examined in order.
It was also announced at the meeting that 67 million TL of public support was provided to 67 media organizations in Antalya, Burdur, Denizli and Isparta in the first quarter of 2025. Erkılınç emphasized that only 3.5 million TL of this support was advertising revenue, while the rest was provided through advertisements.
Erkılınç called on members of the press to prioritize quality journalism and the employment of experienced journalists. “If we do not strengthen the content, we will lose our influence,” he warned.
Stating that long-pending files are being re-examined following the Council of State’s decision to suspend execution, Erkılınç said, “We are evaluating press ethics complaints, but we will carefully determine the limits of sanctions.”
Responding to criticism, Erkılınç claimed that BİK was being tried to be worn down and called on “Our colleagues should not be a party to unjust accusations.” Deputy General Manager Oğuz Akçakoca and Antalya Regional Director İdris Cirit also attended the meeting.
BİK’s regional meetings will continue in Adana on May 13.
