European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) decided that the “right to freedom of expression and thought” of former Diyarbakır Metropolitan Mayor Osman Baydemir was violated. Baydemir had previously been convicted due to “praising the offense and the offender” through the speech he gave during the incidents after the allegation in 2006 that “14 PKK members were killed with chemical weapons.” Turkey will pay 2,975 Euros of compensation to Baydemir and 1000 Euros of court expenses.
