The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ruled that Abdullah Öcalan’s books “Democratic Nation” and “Kurdistan Revolution Manifesto” as well as various newspapers and magazines were not given to prisons. According to the Mesopotamia Agency, the Second Chamber of the ECHR ruled in the case “Aktaş and Others v. Turkey” that prisoners’ freedom of expression was violated. The applications included Veysi Aktaş’s book Demokratik Ulus (Democratic Nation), Turan Günana’s Kurdistan Revolution Manifesto and Yeni Yaşam newspaper, Ramazan İlter’s applications to ban Azrah Kohen’s novels “Fi” and “Çi”, Engin Gökoğlu’s applications to ban Kızılbayrak and Yüksel newspapers, Barış İnan’s applications to ban Atılım newspaper and İbrahim Bektaş’s applications to ban certain books. Combining all the files, the court ruled that Turkey violated freedom of expression.
