The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment over incidents that occurred at an İlkay Akkaya concert held on 6 May as part of the ODTÜ Spring Festival. Prosecutors sought penalties for all 21 people, six of whom were under arrest, on a charge of “publicly denigrating symbols of state sovereignty,” and additionally charged some of them with “simple injury.” The indictment stated that a brawl broke out after a physical confrontation between a group that protested the artist by displaying a Turkish flag during the concert and a group holding opposing views. Prosecutors sought prison sentences of up to four years for the defendants.
