Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ appeared before the judge after 142 days in the case he was arrested on charges of “inciting the public to hatred and hostility”. Istanbul 18th Criminal Court of First Instance ruled for the continuation of Özdağ’s detention. The hearing will be held on June 17 in Silivri. In his defense, Özdağ argued that his social media posts did not constitute a criminal offense and that his criticisms were in accordance with the law. “Ümit Özdağ is not alone” slogans were chanted inside and outside the courtroom after the hearing.
