The Constitutional Court (AYM) decided that it is a “violation of freedom of expression” that the registration application of director Mehmet Ali Gündoğdu for his movie “Adressiz Sorgular” [“Inquiries Without Address”] was denied by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
In the application made for the movie in 2006, the Ministry denied the registration of the movie due to its lack of use of proper language and cinematic methods as well as violating the public order and other principles in the Constitution. The AYM decree indicated that the dialogues in the movie were not evaluated as a “terrorist organisation propaganda” but as a sometimes ironic, sometimes tragic explanation of bitter incidents. “The denial of registration is a most heavy intervention through pre-censorship,” the court stated.
