The Constitutional Court decided that it was a violation of the right to meeting and demonstration that the Governorate issued a protest and demonstration ban against those wanting to protest the refugee shelter construction in Maraş, issuing 10 thousand Turkish Liras of compensation to be paid to each applicant. The refugee shelter center construction had started in 2016 in Sivricehöyük neighborhood of Maraş and had caused a reaction by the local residents. Afterwards, the Governorate had issued a one-month protest and demonstration ban following the request of the Provincial Gendarmerie Command. The Governorate had also extended the ban decree four times during the ongoing process.
