In the application of university student Doğukan Bilir, who was beaten in Eskişehir during the Gezi Park protests, the Constitutional Court (AYM) decided for the torture ban, guaranteed by Article 17/3 of the Constitution, to have been violated. The court issued 25 thousand TL moral compensation to be paid to Bilir.
In the lawsuit filed on the incident against four people, including three police officers, at Eskişehir 9th Criminal Court of First Instance, one police officer had been acquitted and the other defendants had been sentenced to 3 thousand TL judicial fine each. The local court abated the sentences of the defendants and deferred the announcement of the sentences against the police officers. The high court further decided for three defendants to be prosecuted again in order to remove the consequences of the violation.
