Writer Hamide Yiğit, who faced a lawsuit due to her book, “The Full Scope of ISIS” [“Tekmili Birden IŞID”], was sentenced to 15 thousand TL judicial fine. Yiğit was on trial due to “insult” at Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance within the lawsuit filed following the complaints of Humanitarian Aid Foundation (IHH), Bilal Erdoğan and Minister Berat Albayrak with Mustafa Erdoğan and Ziya Ülgen also involved in the case.
Reacting against the sentence, Yiğit stated, “These heavy prosecutions will not refrain me from writing.” The writer was previously sentenced to five months of imprisonment due to “public denigration of the government, its judicial bodies as well as its military and security organization” through the same book and the sentence was turned into 3000 TL judicial fine. Yiğit has also been sentenced to 7.5 months of imprisonment with the allegation that she has “publicly denigrated the Government of the Republic of Turkey as well as the state” on the cover of her book, “AKP’s War With Syria.”
