No indictment prepared 740 days after murder of Hande Kader

740 days have passed after the murder of 23-year-old transsexual Hande Kader, who was beaten, raped, murdered and whose dead body was burned and left on a sideroad in Zekeriyaköy. However, there is no progress in the investigation started by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The lack of indictment on the matter despite the long time after the murder increases worries on the file being one of the unresolved cases. Human rights advocate and LGBTI+ activist Deniz Tunç stated, “The phases of investigation and prosecution are conducted through the hands of the governing political power, therefore the perpetrators are either not found, or those found are being rewarded with small penalties. Two years have passed after the death of Hande, but there is not even a slight illumination on the file. Unfortunately, it is not among the priority of the judiciary to find the murderers or rapists of transsexuals, women and children. The only thing we expect is for the investigation prosecutor to handle the matter with conscience and follow up on it.”
