The Constitutional Court ruled that the right to meetings and demonstrations of union leader İlhan Yiğit, who was detained during a statement held by the Confederation of Public Employees’ Unions’ (KESK) on the collective bargaining agreement in 2015, was violated. The police, who attacked the union members wanting to march to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security with the delegation to participate in the collective bargaining negotiations on the grounds that the protest was “outside the areas determined by the governorate”, detained 3 union members, including Yiğit. The Constitutional Court stated, “interpretation of the law by the organs exercising public power in such a way as to make the exercise of the right significantly difficult cannot justify the violation.”
