A custody operation was conducted in Ankara, Diyarbakır, Istanbul, Bursa and Izmir against the all Municipality and Local Administration Service Workers’ Union (TÜM BEL-SEN) and Health and Social Service Workers’ Union (SES) under the Confederation of Public Workers’ Union (KESK) and the People’s Democratic Party (HDP).
Former HDP Kars MP Mülkiye Birtane, SES Co-Chair Gönül Erden, TÜM BEL-SEN Secretary General Yılmaz Yardımcı, TÜM BEL-SEN Central Executive Council member Adem Kaya and TÜM BEL-SEN Monitoring Council Chairman Yusuf Güler are among those taken into custody during the operation. The custodies in Ankara were indicated to have been within the investigation started due to the White Flag protest organized against curfews in 2016; the 16 people taken into custody were charged with ‘illegal organization propaganda.’
